As elected officials at both the state and federal level debate dramatic changes in Health Care Delivery and Payment Policy, physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and even PT and PTA students need to engage at levels higher than ever before. Hiring a lobbyist is simply not enough.

In politics, "You Are The Message" and you need to get involved and make a difference for your profession, your chapter and your patients. We know that contacting a public official about an issue can be intimidating. Testifying at a public hearing can feel traumatic. Relax. We can give you the tools to be effective and really make a difference.

At just $100 for APTA members ($140 for non-members) and only $50 for students, the event remains a bargain. You'll receive breakfast, lunch and resource materials to bring back to your practice. Friday Agenda

The first weekend in March is going to be an exciting time for physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and PT and PTA students in New England. Experts from across the country and the region will be on hand for three distinct events aimed at three different PT markets.

Private practice owners from across the region will meet on Friday afternoon to enhance their ability to compete in today's market. Workshops include "How to protect your reputation from online attacks," "Retaining Staff: An Approach to Coaching and Progressive Discipline," "HIPAA Audits - What You Need to Know," and "APTA's New England Regional Pilot Update."

Concurrently, the first Regional Student Conclave will take place all day Friday. Please consider sponsoring a student to attend this event.

The 2nd annual Regional Public Policy Advocacy Forum will anchor the weekend on Saturday from 8 am - 4 pm. We are expecting over 150 attendees who are all interested in participating in the health care debate in this country. As states continue to change both how health care is delivered and how to pay for the system, PTs, PTAs and PT & PTA students will be engaged in the process. On Saturday, March 3rd, elected officials, lobbyists, communications experts and others will join us to ensure that our PTs can make a real difference.

Regional Student Conclave - Friday, March 02, 2012

Our first-ever regional Student Conclave will open the weekend's activities on Friday, March 2nd. The student event will run from 8 am � 5 pm. Based on the National Student Conclave and a very successful Connecticut event which has drawn over 100 students, this year's regional event will prepare graduating students for their entry into the profession. We are holding professional preparation classes in the morning including utilizing social networks, interviewing and resume tips and specific courses on potential national and international opportunities. The afternoon will feature clinical sessions in a variety of areas, particularly women's health, neurology, the shoulder and pediatrics.
